I remember it like it was yesterday. It was my twenty-fifth birthday, and I was sitting on my front porch fighting back tears.
I thought that by the ripe old age of twenty-five, I shouldn’t be such a mess. I always figured I’d have it all together by then. Instead, I felt completely overwhelmed. I couldn’t keep up with life’s daily demands, and my house was a total mess.
I had always assumed that when I got married, became a mother, and owned a house, the whole “homemaking” thing would just come naturally. But here I was, living out my dream and failing miserably.
Well, it’s almost twenty years later, and there are still times when I wish I had it “all together.” Keeping up with being a wife and mom and homemaker never did come as naturally as I’d hoped, but I’ve learned quite a few tricks over the years that have helped make up for my lack of natural ability.
So, when I get emails from women who are struggling to catch-up and keep-up with their cluttered homes and their messy lives, I just want to reach right through the computer and give them a hug…and some chocolate. Because I get it. I know how guilty and overwhelmed they feel, and I know that it doesn’t have to be that way.
